LinkedIn - Rate this translation feature

Raised  a question today about "Rate this translation" feature in LinkedIn. One of my ex-colleagues commented on a post, as the post was not in English, I used the "See translation" option, and then there was this "Rate this translation" option available to me. My question is, what use is this feature? I will see the translation only because I don't know the original language. And those who know the language wouldn't care to see the translation. So why ask me to rate the translation? How would I be in a position to rate the translation when I don't know the language? My post is here .  The original post that I didn't understand is here .

The pace is just not matching

Image
The pace at which the world, especially technology, is changing is a pace which my pace of learning is unable to match. It's changing rapidly, every day, something new is coming up, and there's the dilemma, if I spend a lot of time learning new things, when do I get to implement what I learn? If I keep implementing what I learnt when do I get to learn new stuff? The pace is just not matching.

When AI-powered robots take over the world

Image
AI-powered robots (AIPRs) will be able to carry out medical surgeries, build bridges, buildings and roads, argue in a court of law, drive cars, trucks, and other vehicles, fly planes, code software, sell goods in a store, serve in a restaurant, manufacture goods, protect borders, fight wars, maintain law and order, write books, paint, sing, dance, act, travel, forecast weather, clean toilets, fix drainage, shoot movies, win debates, play sports, cook food, deliver pizzas, say jokes, and do everything else that we currently consider as a job. It looks like it is inevitable that we will reach a situation where AIPRs will do all of these more efficiently than humans. It looks like it's no longer a question of "if" but "when".   Some of the things that AIPRs cannot do, for example, are to feel, meditate, pray, bless, enjoy, etc. They can act as if they feel but actually they won't feel. They will not have any morality. Without morality they can be highly destruc...

Why we don't ask enough questions?

quite true, isn't it? :-)

Percentage of C-section deliveries during lockdown

Image
I wonder if anyone is carrying out an unbiased and independent research on the percentage of C-section deliveries during the lockdown period in India and similar countries which had high % of C-section deliveries. I think it will be less than half of what it used to be before lockdown if my thought process is correct that during this lockdown period women are not being forced by doctors to undergo C-section to avoid longer stay at hospitals. Before lockdown, in southern states of India the % of C-section deliveries had reached over 35%. If there is considerable decrease in C-section deliveries during lockdown period (23 March to now) compared to before lockdown then it would be evident that most C-sections were done for non-health related purposes. Why this research or investigation is important? This is a unique period. This period of lockdown was not planned, not known and therefore no preparations done by anyone. Delivery date cannot be postponed till lockdown is over unlike othe...

How do supermarkets capture feedback?

Image
In a small shop (mom and pop store) the owner of the shop gets direct feedback from customers. For example, when a customer comes to purchase something and if that item is missing or sold out, the owner immediately is aware about this. Now the owner decides if he should order that item or not.  My question is, how do supermarkets manage similar situations? In the supermarkets when some item is missing or sold out, most customers don't bother to ask the employees there, even if they ask the employees are not tracking any of this and therefore not passing this information to store manager or management?

Why Sir?

Image
A teacher had just completed explaining the “ Five whys ” method to the students of 7th grade. He explained to them that asking at least 5 times “why” iteratively will lead them to the root cause of a problem. And he added “ never leave anything halfway without asking the five whys ”. Instantly, Brian, one of the naughtiest in the class, stood up and asked  Brian : Why sir? (Why should I follow the five whys method?) Teacher : If you follow that you will get to know the answers. Brian : Why sir? (Why should I get to know the answers?) Teacher : So that you can become knowledgeable. Brian : Why sir? (Why should I become knowledgeable?) Now the teacher was beginning to get annoyed but as he had just lectured for 1 hour about the importance of asking the “why” questions, he didn’t want to give up. So he gave it a thought and gave an answer. Teacher : With knowledge you can make better decisions in your life. Brian : Why sir? (Why should I make better ...

Vision problems - can it be cured naturally?

Image
For vision problems like short-sightedness (Myopia) or long-sightedness (Hyperopia), are we reacting too quickly and jumping on to the solutions like spectacles or contact lens and then becoming dependent on it for life-term? If we wouldn't use it would our eyes naturally get better and adapt over a period of time?  In my own case I went to an eye specialist when I started getting headache as somebody told me that the headache was because of eye strain and I should get my eyes checked. I wonder if that headache was temporary and if it was a natural way for my eyes to adapt.

Can we be happy when we are asleep?

Image
Is there a way we can be happy when we are asleep? I'm not asking about being happy because we got enough sleep, I'm asking about during sleep, i.e while we are asleep can we be happy? Is there a way? If yes, I would like to know. It would be really great to apply a working technique because whether we do something else or not, we sleep for sure on a daily / nightly basis, and if we can be happy for 5 to 8 hours a day on a guaranteed basis, wouldn't that be great thing for our body?

Dreams - Questions

Image
Why do we see dreams ? And why do we most often forget dreams once we wake up? Why are some dreams connected to what happens in real life? And why are some dreams totally disconnected from what is currently happening in real life? Using IBI I am carrying out some sort of research to get to the answers, let's see how far I can get.

Do animals and plants keep a count?

Image
Does a chicken know how many eggs it has laid today? How many chicks it has? How many eggs it has laid throughout its life? Does it know how old it is? Does a mango tree know how many mangoes it has at any point in time? How many mangoes it has produced? Does a tree keep a count of how many people it has seen? Does a cow know there are 4 people (4 individuals) standing in front of it ? Or does it see 4 people as a collection? Image by Bishnu Sarangi from Pixabay Image by OpenClipart-Vectors from Pixabay

I am proud

Image
I wonder how anyone can be proud of something that they have not achieved consciously. For example, people claim that they are proud of their region, religion, nationality, language etc, basically any inherited identity.  The questions I have are, did you choose to be born in a certain family / region or nation? What is your achievement / contribution in that? Nothing, right? Then why are you proud of something that you had nothing to contribute? If someone decided to become a doctor, and then works for it and becomes a doctor, he/she can be proud of achieving that.

Why 2 doors car in Germany?

Image
What is the reason for people to select / buy two doors full size cars in Germany (mostly) Are there any specific reasons? All I could think is that 1) Probably most of them are either a couple or living alone and no joint families so mostly back seats won't be used or 2) For child safety?

Why does a digital payment card (credit, debit etc) have an expiry date?

Why does a digital payment card (credit, debit etc) have an expiry date? Is it only for backward compatibility? If yes, isn't it time to get rid of expiry dates for digital payment cards? Was doing a payment online and got this question, did a quick check but couldn't find a reason for digital payment cards to have an expiry date.  For plastic cards I could find reasons related to wear and tear of the card, fraud prevention, marketing opportunities etc but having an expiry date for digital card is like having a TV Antenna mandatorily on rooftop for watching videos online on PC (without a real TV) just because previously we needed a TV Antenna for a TV :-) . Why are we scared to be right?

Why are we scared to be right? Shouldn't it be the other way around that people who are wrong should be scared? But people who are wrong don't seem to be scared, and people who want to be right are scared to be right. Why are we scared to say right things? Why are we scared to do the right things? Why are we scared to be right?   Majority need not be always right. If you have data and facts to prove majority as wrong then go ahead and prove it, don't wait for others, because others will also wait for others.

Why people actually work?

Why people actually work? Major categories given below based on high level reasons Category 1 : Mission - Wants to bring a change. Category 2 : Passion -  Self-motivated and interested to create something.              Category 3 : Survival - Breadwinner - No other choice. Category 4 : Respect -  Social pressure - Forced to work. Category 5 : Experience -  To understand, learn and gain work experience. Category 6 : Financial freedom - Can survive but doesn't want to depend on others. Category 7 : Herd mentality - No clue what else to do. Category 8 : Don't like being house husband / housewife - need an escape route. An Employer/Boss/Manager should be able to understand which category an employee falls into. This will help them to get the best out of the employee while providing the employees with the best possible type of support. Each category requires different type of support. Where employers fail is when they loo...

Why do we live?

With all its uncertainties, Life is better than death because death is totally unknown. Written in April 2015, published in anoopkumarvk.blogspot.com (now deleted) This is why people live. If we would know what happens after death and if we would know that the experience after death would be pleasurable then everyone would be ready to die. We simply don't know death, when we don't know something we fear it, and that is natural.

How to decide good or bad?

Image
No rules, no laws, no books, nothing outside of us can really tell us whether anything and everything is good or bad. Only way to decide is to consider our self as the recipient.  Written in April 2015, published on Anoopkumarvk.blogspot.com (now deleted) When you consider yourself as the recipient of an action that you are about to do which will impact other person you will know whether what you are doing is good or bad. It is not easy as it looks. You need to look at it from every possible angle. For example, you are driving a car, a child, out of ignorance, is waiting to cross the road from your left side to your right side in a non-pedestrian zone. Should you stop the car and let the child cross the road? You stop and you believe you did a good deed. Child tries to cross the road because you stopped. Another vehicle coming behind you in the right lane hits the child because the signal was clear for the car and the driver was not expecting a pedestria...

Have languages connected us or divided us?

Put a dog (or any animal) from one part of the world to another part of the world, it will communicate with ease with other dogs (other animals) in that part of the world. Now think about what humans have to go through to communicate. Have languages really connected us or have they divided us?
